Why would you only stick to banning soft drinks mayor Bloomberg? I know the reason for this is to control the weight of Americans so they do not get obese but there are many other food and drinks that contribute to obesity other than soft drinks. Beer is one of the highest reason why people gain weight. But despite that, they only look at the soft drinks because it consists of monstrous calories and lots of sugar. In my opinion, I think that banning soft drinks is out of the question. Many people consume milkshakes and other soft drinks every day and even beer. There are days when I come home from a long day and just grab a beer and relax in front of my AC. I think that he should not ban anything because it isn't really hurting us as long as we know our limits and we are capable of controlling it.

I did not know Instagram was this popular. For everyone who does not know what it is, it is a app for the iphone or android where we can take pictures and upload it. Our friends can follow us or we can follow them and "like" their pictures and comment on them as well. There are different filters so we can change the way the pictures look. Even my parents have instagram which is something surprising because they are not exactly the greatest technology users. They take pictures and upload them and ask me to accept their request to follow me. This app is one of the most downloaded app these days. People from all around the world uses it because it is that popular. It's a very cool app and people who do not have it should try it out.

Obamacare

I was on reddit today and I happened to read this page. It is about the obamacare that is going on these days. I know many people who dont have health insurance right now because they can't afford it. I have friends who are illegal immigrants so they can't get health insurance. I am not really a big fan of obamacare because why would people get health insurance if they dont want to. They shouldnt be forced to get something they dont want or let alone afford it. The guy who wrote this says he supports it because it will change the United State's health care system in a positive way. I honestly dont really care if it changes it in a positive way or negative way as long as nothing negative will come onto me and my life.

I wrote a blog about this before few days ago saying that my family never celebrates it. Today for the first time, I convinced my parents to have a bbq outside instead of just staying home in our ACed home. Even though it was very hot outside, it was nice spending time with my whole family just talking and hanging out; something we never do because we are so busy living our own lives. I found out about Korea's independence day as well which is on March 1st. My dad told me lots of story about his younger days and how he lived his life. Usually, these kind of stories bore me to death but today it was actually interesting because I have not had a deep conversation with him for a very long time. After dinner, we all went to a nearby park to watch fireworks. The weather was ridiculously humid and hot and it attracted many mosquitoes but despite that, I had lots of fun today having pleasant conversations and learning new things about history and their lives.

Technology and emotions
Minjoo Jung blog 20
Emotions are something that we feel depending on our situation or circumstances. Emotions are very powerful even to the extent where we can control a device and make it move. In class few days ago, I thought it was very cool about how we could control something with our emotions. If we were angry, then the ball would stretch back and if we were happy or calm the ball would stretch up. Even though we had technical difficulties where the ear pieces kept on falling out, we still got an idea of how it worked. That is something that amazed me because I have never witnessed or observed anything like that and it made me realize how advanced technology has become. Before all this, smartphones amazed me because it was so cool how we can search the internet, go on facebook, call and text people all through one little simple device. Now more advanced technology is coming out to the point where we can just use only our emotions to control it.

july 4th
Minjoo Jung blog#19
July 4th was never a big holiday to my family. We sometimes have an bbq depending on the weather and our mood but we never do anything crazy. We just sit and watch fireworks on TV like the macy's one that show every year. I tried going to the fireworks in the city but I ended up spending an 3 hours in traffic trying to reach my destination and three hours trying to come back home. It was not a fun trip. I know many families who go on trips like vacations during the independence day weekend but my family never went on one trip to celebrate it. We are very boring people, at least my parents are lazy people. What do you guys do on July 4th?

Trolling
Minjoo Jung blog#18
Trolling is very popular on the internet these days. Everyone trolls at least a little or some are crazy trollers. As I explained my story in class about my ex saying bad things about me on facebook, that is an example of how people troll these days. I knew a grandpa who went on an internet site and started trolling to people who were saying bad things about his job. He started cursing at the people who wrote stuff and one of the people called the cops and attempted to sue him. The poor grandpa was so embarrased because his job was on the line and if he got caught with doing something like this, his customers will not come to him anymore. So in the end, he made his grandson pretend that he wrote the curses and apologize to the guy and it ended like that. The point of this story is that not only younger generation kids troll but older generation adults do it as well; everyone does it.

This is so crazy how facebook can lose our emails and alter our address books. Something weird happened to me last night as well. I Was home and then my aunt from korea calls me saying, "hey did you email me something?" i say no because i didnt. Many of my other friends posted on my facebook saying STOP SENDING ME JUNK EMAIL. That's when I knew, I got hacked and someone was messing with my emails and sending spam to other people including my professors. I immediately changed my password so hopefully this madness will stop but I dont know how and where they got into my email. This is some scary stuff.

They say that in a few years, people looking down on their smartphones will be considered unusual because these glasses will be part of the norm.

Next Generation of Dress Shirts

This is a pretty cool idea how they created dress shirts where it can regulate our body temperature, odor and more. There are many people who needs to wear suits, dress shirts to work for professional reasons. Even in the city, I witnessed men who were sweating like crazy because they were dressed in a dress shirt in an 100 degree weather. I felt bad because they have no choice but to wear it every day. I see them sweating in their backs and it is not a good look. This new dress shirt idea was taken from NASA where they used this kind of material in their space suits. If you wear this shirt, you will not sweat as much because it controls your body temperate by pulling it away from your body and putting it in the shirt.

immigration
Minjoo Jung blog #13
I was reading a article on immigration for my other class and I just thought it was pretty interesting to know that everyone migrates to the United States for the same reason; to have better opportunities and lives. My parents came to the U.S for a better life as well. They wanted me and my sister to grow up in an environment with diversity instead of just living in an area filled with only Koreans. They wanted us to get lots of different experiences from different people. Many people come here for better opportunities but it is not always like that. On my way to the city for class, I see many homeless people begging for change because they are hungry. I dont know understand why they came here if they are going to live their life like that. Obviously not all of them are immigrants but most are and for them to come to another country and live in the street is a wonder for me. I am pretty sure there are many jobs out here as in odd jobs. They can wash cars and other things instead of just sitting in the streets. I always feel bad so I give them a dollar or so but i stopped because of an incident that happened to me. I gave this man food and he yelled at me saying, "I dont need this. i need money to buy weed." I just stood there in shock and after that, I try not to give them money because I feel like many of it goes to drugs and alcohol. But my point of this story was that many people come to the United States for a better life because they are unsatisfied with their own country but many people get lazy. They should realize that they can and is capable of doing something with their lives instead of giving up.

the reason why i still live at home
Minjoo Jung blog #12
There were many times, I wanted to move out and live on my own because of the nagging and stress my parents gave me. I wanted to live on my own, carefree without having to worry about what time I wake up, where I go and what time I come home. My parents are very lenient when it comes to my sister and me. They don't mind that we come home late at times as long as we sleep at home or if we give them a heads up if we're planning to stay over a friends house. But the nagging that they give me is unbearable sometimes. I feel like they try to find every reason they can to give me a lecture about something whether it is life, or my future. I know its from their best interest because they care for me deeply but still, if I hear the same thing over and over it gets tedious. I am a grown woman and I know what I am going to do with my life and what I want to do. But the reason why I still live at home is because of course I cannot afford to pay for rent every month. I dont own a car at this moment because my parents are fine with me driving their car. But if I live on my own then I have to pay rent, most likely lease or finance my own car, buy all the groceries, cook every day, pay for electricity/water and more. Money will be leaving my side left and right and I am not in a stable condition to handle all that. I am not in the position to support myself. So, I thought, hey my parents are allowing me to live in their house right now but sooner or later, they will cut me off and tell me to get out, so why not take advantage of the fact that i am still their baby girl and live in their house. I have friends who moved out because they wanted to be independent, but they are regretting their decision so much. All i hear from them is complaining that they have no money to save or spend. I tell them to come out and grab a drink on the weekends but they turn me down because they can't afford to pay for drinks anymore. All of their money goes to their house and utilities so they have nothing to spare and spend on leisure and fun. They all have jobs but we just graduated so it obviously isn't the highest paying job. When I observe their life, my life right now is so much happier because i dont have to worry about bills and rent. This is the reason why I still live at home. Id rather take their nagging then have money problems.

The sharp, sudden decline of America's middle class
Minjoo Jung blog # 11
http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/the-sharp-sudden-decline-of-americas-middle-class-20120622#ixzz1yplIkz8i
This article stood out to me because my family lies in the middle class and I am worried something like this can happen to me. People in the middle class had good stable jobs but after the great recession hit, they lost their jobs. It had such a big negative impact on their life that they had to live in their cars in a parking lot. The Safe Parking program is a big help because it gave the people who did not have homes to live in their cars in those lots if they had a permit. It is so crazy to think how one day a person can have a good job but in a blink of an eye, they can lose everything they have and get thrown out into their car to live. The one lady that was interviewed named Janis Adkins had to live in her car as well and eat fruits that fell from trees to stay alive. Good thing Santa Barbara does not have cold weather because if it did then that would be a brutal condition to live in. There are even teenage children living with their mother because they did not have homes. The great recession is really bringing people down in a negative way and I am scared that one day everything that I have and own will be gone.

North Korea tests the patience of its closest ally
Minjoo Jung blog # 8
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/25/world/asia/north-korea-tests-the-patience-of-its-ally-china.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1
I thought this article was interesting because as all of you guys know, my grandpa was from north Korea so news like this interests me. I dont understand why Kim Jong-un will try to test the patience of China when he knows that China is their closest ally. I think that he is being straight up stupid because if he loses china has an ally then he would be in a slump. If China say's dont test out the nuclear weapons then just dont do it. China provided north Korea with lots of aid and he probably knows that fact as well. “The North is on track to build a warhead that could in a few years hit any regional target and eventually the United States,” said Evans J. R. Revere. This part of the article sort of scared me because that if North Korea can build weapons so strong that it can reach halfway around the world to the United States, countries who are not ally's with North Korea is all in danger. I just want peace in this world even though that is hard due to all the conflicts countries have with each other. Especially with the country where my grandfather was born because I am curious to know if any of my relatives are still alive in North Korea. Who knows? I might have a great grandparent still alive or aunts and uncles. My mom said that is impossible to find out because we cannot have any sort of communication with the people living there but that fact brings more curiosity out of me. It would be pretty amazing to one day meet someone who is supposedly related to me that i have never heard or seen before in my life. I hope one day, there will be peace within the two Koreas and people can find their parents, relatives, loved ones and more and reunite with them after many long years.

Second Life
Minjoo Jung Blog # 7
I signed up for second life and it was so lagged so much on my computer, it was impossible to do anything with it. It seems interesting in the fact that we get to connect with other people through avatars and we get to dress them up and more. It was like making a person the way we want to live our life; like a second me. I guess that's where the name second life came from because it is a totally different world where we meet, talk to other "people" or also known as avatars form other places and get to know each other like a real human being would do. It's a shame that I could not play this but it seems like a interesting game.

Copyright holders are trying to steal our property rights
Minjoo Jung blog # 6
http://act.demandprogress.org/letter/first_sale/
I think this is absolutely ridiculous and absurd. If I buy an object then I can legally say that it is owned by me. Why? Because I paid for it with my money that I earned. So whatever I do with that object, I have the right to do it. So how are the copyright holders going to stop us from selling our items that we bought? I have sold many textbooks, clothes and other items that I dont use anymore to my friends or other people through amazon or facebook and for them to try to ban us from doing that is not fair. If this really does happen, then every time we try to sell an item, we have to ask the copyright holders for their permission and as it is stated in the article, they have the right to deny. I hope this does not happen in the future.
